To Fight in the Shade - Long Author's Notes

Long Author’s Notes:

I’ve been writing Sparta verse stories since March of 2008. I wish I could have written more than four installments so far, but real life keeps coming up, other writing projects, other big bangs. But this year, for the 2011 Big Bang, I wanted to work on a story that had been sitting in my head for a while.

To begin with, ( Read more... )

I can't express how pleased i was to come online today and find new Sparta Verse - Thank You.

I adore your Sparta verse - Every story - I always crave more - But I can definitely understand why it takes so long between parts - with everything you give to every detail of the story - it must be exhausting - no wonder you can't shoot out stories willy-nilly!

I haven't even read the story yet - But I need to comment as I am so impressed by your *long authors notes*. From all that went into your struggle with the Title for the story which I think is simply Perfect<3 to the research on the weapons - otter pops - prison food - every little detail is accounted for even down to the intricacies of the maps. All of this is topped off with a song to take us into Sammys head - to his struggle just to be himself - the immense amount of work you put into this story is truly phenomenal. I can't praise it up enough ( ... )

This is perhaps one of the most meaningful comments I've gotten about my writing. Because, yes, I don't just churn a story out, I wish I could, I wish I was faster at it, but the details, especially the small ones, really matter to me. I think they make a story more believable; it's the little threads that tie everything together. It's really nice when that gets noticed, because the behind the scenes stuff is almost always invisible. (Except when I make a big huge blaring post about it!)

Especially lovely is the fact that you see it, that this is Old School Supernatural, the way it was, the way it started out. It's just not that way anymore, and the show has become less compelling for me. Hence my harkening back to the old days ( ... )

First of all, I have to agree with everything jesuti said (except for the part about the show and Sam'n'Dean changing necessarily being a bad thing, but I know I'm pretty much alone in thinking that.)

The amount of work you put into this 'verse is amazing. All the little details that show you just care - about the story, about the characters, about what a certain phrase will make your readers feel - and I think it would probably be perfectly obvious how much work goes on behind the scenes even if you didn't put up a Giant Author's Note of Awesome about it.

I love that you mention BUGS. That maybe he had to raise his voice sometimes comment never fails to crush my picture of just how abusive their childhood really was (and I've decided to ignore its implications for head-canon and fic-writing purposes) but I guess with Sam's you don't remember it leaves a lot of room for interpretation ( ... )

I think every fan has their own idea of what is making the show good or bad or going in the right direction or the wrong one...we wouldn't be a fandom without all those opinions, right ( ... )
