[Clint had convinced himself that it wasn’t like this was a date date. It was just hanging out at Steve’s apartment with a pizza, some beer and a game on the tv. He showed up on Steve’s doorway with a super supreme pizza in one hand and a six pack since neither man were big drinkers for the most part. Clint’s recent foray into drunken depression

[Steve wasn't even sure Clint would care about the clothes, frankly.]
[Actually, Steve was going to count the night as a win as long as he didn't manage to terrify Clint into needing some "air" again.]
[To that end, when he opened the door, he was going to try to be on his best behavior. But Clint's comments had him raise an eyebrow and he let out a soft chuckle.]
You're not the first Avenger to try to get me into a strip club, but I think we should ... ah, leave the stripping out of this date. Don't you?

[Still, he was attempting something he hoped was a fairly natural and not forced smile when Steve opened the door. Unfortunately, the sheer ridiculousness of his previous statement was beginning to sink in about that time and Clint's smile dimmed noticeably.]
It was Stark, wasn't it. [Thankfully, Cap let him off the hook somewhat with that comment and Clint's smile brightened somewhat.] You're no fun but I guess we can skip the strippers and just stick with the pizza and beer. [The archer joked awkwardly when the big D word sank in as well. Holy shit, this was a fucking date wasn't it? What the hell was he doing here ( ... )

[Steve's voice was full of the fond amusement that usually slipped in whenever he thought of Bucky in a context that had nothing to do with Russia.]
[His amusement lessened slightly though, because was it just his imagination, or was Clint already seeming uncomfortable?]
[Okay, all things considered maybe that was perfectly normal. Or maybe he was being paranoid.]
I've got wings and chips too. Of course, you actually have to come in to get them. [With that, Steve stepped back a little, in invitation.]

[Clint teased, eyes twinkling with mischief. He didn't miss the fond amusement that colored Steve's voice but couldn't really blame the man. Hawkeye couldn't even begin to imagine how important the other man was to Steve or what a source of comforting familiarity he was to Cap.]
Well that requires you to move too, Cap. Hate to break it to ya but you're kinda built like a freakin' linebacker. [He reminded the older man and once Steve stepped out of the door way, he slipped around him and into the hallway. Clint tried not to think too hard about what had happened the last time they'd been here but it was impossible. By telling yourself not to think about something, you constantly obsessed over the very thing you were trying to avoid thinking about.]

Wait. Showtunes? We're gonna dance to showtunes? Because you can bet your ass I'm going to come up with all kinds of cracks Stark never even thought of if that's the case. [Amused, he raked a glance over Steve.] Didn't take you for the musical type, Cap. Let me guess, Cats is your favorite, right?

Well, we don't have to dance to showtunes, but those and "old people music" make up the bulk of my music collection. There's some of Sam and Sharon's desperate attempts to get me to listen to more current stuff, and the Young Avengers gave me a "welcome back" selection of music that I think had the same purpose. I really hope you don't want to dance to that Lady Gaga woman, though.

Old people music, huh? Well, I'm sure we can come to a compromise over something. [The blond archer bust out laughing at the mental image of Steve trying to dance to Lady Gaga. He probably shouldn't have but it was just too hilarious.] Oh, God....no. No Gaga for you, Cap. [Snickers.]

Thank god for small favors. [Steve gestered to the corner of the room, where the music collection sat. The record player and records were still there, but he'd reluctantly added a CD player and a few CDs to the collection. There's also an iPod, which Steve will admit is good for the morning jog, but not for much else, in his opinion.]
Do you want to pick something out while I clear us some room?
