Kind of fallacious, the test prepares you to not look for that color, in a dark area no less.

right, but a lot of people are prepared to not look for cyclists...

That's the point of course, that some drivers are specifically looking for cars and can easily miss bicyclists or pedestrians.

As soon as I saw the ball moving around, I thought, "Hey, this is like that one study of the gorilla costumed person entering a basketball game, unnoticed by the audience." That's totally a classic social psych study! In that study, the researchers found that 50% of people didn't even notice the gorilla on the court, facing the audience, thumping its chest. Crazy! It's interesting what we miss when our attentions are focused elsewhere...
