I'm currently trying to convince my parents that they ought to consider the Deuterocanonicals as part of the biblical canon. To that end, I sent a huge list of quotations from the Church Fathers referencing them. I stole them from www.CatholicAnswers.org. I thought that I'd go ahead and post them here, in case anyone was interested: (
deuterocanonicals )

We don't accept as canon truly "apocryphal" books - that's basically just what the word means. Those certainly vary from heretical nonsense to good devotional reading that simply isn't considered "inspired" or authoritative in the way necessary for canonization".
See, the difference is that we don't consider the "deuterocanonicals" to be "apocryphal". Deuterocanonical just refers to their coming from the Septuagint (the Greek Hebrew scriptures) and not a part of the later Hebrew scriptures.
