Hipster Trends I Dislike (part 1)

I find myself rambling and ranting in my head when I spot certain things. You're welcome to agree or agree to disagree!

1. FILTER OVERLOAD ON INSTAGRAMInstagram is an iPhone app that allows you to put filters on the photos you take via iPhone/Android camera. It can create a soft, artsy tone, or some other look (honestly, I'm unsure of the other ( Read more... )

I agree with the instagram critique... all of the film students I'm friends with take 'artsy' shots of their shoes or fancy drinks we order but... bars in low light + electric colored drinks + iPhone pixels makes the shots look terrible!

You could use the fork as a shovel/spoon instead of a stabbing device? haha

haha, i try scooping the leaves with the fork and they just fall back on the plate before i can eat it.

sometimes i'll just use a spoon and use a knife/fork to place it on the spoon, but the leaves in general- times they're so long! it's hard to balance, grrrr.

i like getting this kind of salad at whole foods so that i can eat it with chopsticks XD- much easier.

I agree that hipstergram (as I like to refer to them) photos are cheezy, overdone and make photos look worse. But that's the point of them, they're meant to make the photos worse/old. There's many filters to make your photo more grainy, blurry, look folded or torn, washed out, faded and so on. If you want to make your photos better there are many apps for that as well. the photoshop app for example can help you adjust your white balance, contrast, overall brightness and removed grain/noise from photos but it can also do a lot of the gimcky stuff the hipstergram photo apps do as well. Also, for being a shitty little camera, I recently got some prints developed at costco of photos I took with my iphone and I was surprised at how well they came out. They didn't look as nice as the prints from my SLR but you couldn't tell the iphone prints from the pocket sized digital camera prints and I think they looked even better printed than they did on my phone ( ... )

ooh, there's a photoshop app! interesting, i'll have to check that out sometime. hipstergram is a good name too, hehe.

i can see the fun and benefit of making some photos look older or worn. there's just so many times where it does much more harm than good. i've counted too many food photos posted via instagram; grainy and desaturated food looks...the opposite of delicious XD.

you're totally right about the mixed greens- i never remember which one is sweet and which one is bitter. it's a fun surprise with every bite!

Do you know how much I love you for mentioning chopsticks in regards to food? So many times I've wanted to use chopsticks instead of forks, especially when I'm eating crispy bacon!

mm, chopsticks are almost always appropriate =D! and yea, that's a good point- crispy bacon can't be picked up with a fork, so you have to use your hands (eww greasy).

You're way too funny. The points you are making are so true and I agree with you 100%. I have to try out this instagram photo thingy. I usually upload crappy lit, grainy photos from my iphone when I'm out and about. I'll save the photoshopping for my dslr photos.

This makes me wanna try something though. Next time I'm at the grocery store, I'm gonna drop a dollar or two on a can of spaghetti and meatballs by Chef Boyardee; Speghetti-Os would be too obvious. I'll then take an iPhone photo, run it thru this crappy filter and post it online and claim I'm in some fancy italian retaurant. Let's see how many people reply, "OMG, I'm so jelly. It looks so delicious".

I've always tried to avoid mixed greens salads for the fear of stabbing my throat with a fork while the salad falls in my lap. You girls are lucky though. For times like these, you can always carry a spare pair of disposable chopsticks in ur purse. I've always wanted to bring some of those to Olive Garden or Spaghetti Factory. XD
