Why is every great musician so phlegmatic?

Constant, heavy use of the vocal chords causes a lot of mucus to detach the throat lining, which in turn stimulates more mucus production.

Loud singing shoots a lot of this stuff, unfortunately, on those who spent the most money on concert tickets.
