Summary: Danielle loved the city. The way it breathed and moved like a living thing. Its rich diversities ever as abundant as the jungles in which she had spent most of her life and which had brought her to this suburban one.

( Nearby, a businessman glanced nervously over his newspaper pages at the grimy man beside him who had begun muttering to demons and loved ones only he could see. Visions from his past maybe, haunting his mind like a vengeful ghost, claiming his sanity in exchange for past sins. )

That was so sweet. The angst at the end was fantastic, it's so sad to think that Danielle only got Alex for a little while after fighting so hard for her - a very beautiful fic

Thank you so much for reading! I wish we had more to go by when it comes to Rousseau. I am still hoping for a flashback. I love the little glimpse of sweetness we saw inside of her when Sayid fixed her music box way back in Season 1. I imagine her as a brilliant, well-adjusted woman prior to crashing on the island.

I know, at the end of season three I was totally thinking that we should get flashbacks for her & Alex, 'coz I was getting sick of everyone else's flashbacks but the writers have switched to flashforwards now. It would have been awesome to see Danielle before the island because her team coming to the island would have been such a perfect story for the writers to tell

What an original take on the photo prompt, not to mention Danielle's backstory. It challenged my own assumptions about Rousseau's journey, her motives for coming to the island and her relationship with Robert. I like the notion that she refused to marry Robert.

It's funny, I originally read the last paragraph as her giving birth to Alex all alone and the baby being taken away but on reflection you meant when she got shot, right? It's interesting and messed up (poor Danielle) that both incidents have a lot in common.

This was lovely. You made a backstory that seems completely real. I'd forgotten about Danielle's music box.

Oh, Lord. Danielle's music box. That alone is enough to make me cry. And you've got the Danielle voice perfectly - I can just imagine she must have "sounded" like this before everything fell apart.

I really loved the sliver of pre-island Danielle that the writers showed us with the music box. At the time, I had hoped more would be revealed, but now I am not so sure that is going to happen. But you never know. They are always surprising us! Thank you for reading!
