Some thoughts about Ritsuka's memory loss

I know many people (myself included) believe that Seimei had something to do with Ritsuka's memory loss. What most intrigues me is that according to Ritsuka's school records, his personality totally changed as well ( Read more... )

I do certainly think that Seimei has something to do with it; I've thought as much since I saw the anime, it grew so much more with the manga. Most of the stuff I write about Loveless has that idea in mind ( ... )

I tend to kind of ignore the fact that something caused Ritsuka's memories to disappear and who's fault it was if something did cause this change ( ... )

Actually we know he did. There is a flashback in the second volume where Misaki attacks Ritsuka and Seimei steps in to protect him.

Well, no, because Seimei was alive for a while with the "new" Ritsuka before he died.

I mean the Ritsuka before he lost his memories; that's who I refer to as the "old" Ritsuka. And, since he has no memories at all from before that time, what we see in the book is a memory from the "new" Ritsuka. So Misaki could still have beaten, or not beaten the "old" Ritsuka.

I think that the only reason that Seimei manipulated Ritsuka's memory was to have him all to himself. Of course, we've seen some flashbacks on when he was 5 and his bordeline incestous behavior towards Ritsuka.

But after reading the Zero Sum Nov 2007 issue, he said that Ritsuka is the only thing in the world, that is the same like him. And the fact that he would love any Ritsuka, even if he doesn't love him, which right there I'm not too sure if he meant the wrong kind of love but... Still, I find it mind boggling that he wants to be love accepted. With everyone having negative beliefs of him, I do feel that Seimei is trying to manipulate Ritsuka's memories. Then there was a part when Ritsuka asked where his lunch that mom made and that they could still eat it. Semei said that it might be dirty.

Well, I think Ritsuka will know Seimei's nastier version of himself in the next chapter of ZS. Since Soubi finally stood up for himself regardless of what the consequences of his actions are.

Memory loss maybe.. but personality change no.... last chapter of Zersum he said that he would love any Ritsuka, implying that he would love any personality thats what the whole thing about.

Though he could... its not over till its over..

my real theory is seven moons did it and that is why Seimei turned or something because they done something so shocking to Ritsuka that Seimei turned on everybody.

I really like this idea. Septimal Moon could have manipulated Ritsuka to try to bring Seimei into the open so they could kill him. I'm pretty sure Seimei would have still done evil things, so that it wasn't like Seimei was a good kid until they messed with Ritsuka or something. In the flashback of Soubi meeting Seimei and Seimei carving his name into Soubi, the ages at that time were Soubi(17), Seimei(14), and Ritsuka(9). Since Ritsuka lost his memory after this incident, it goes without saying that Seimei is still bad, although Septimal Moon could still be the culprit for the memory loss.

I don't think Seimei had to alter his personality, I think erasing his memory was all it took.

All of a sudden Ritsuka doesn't remember facts of his life. He has a mother who doesn't acknowledge him, who abuses him. A father who emotionally abandons him (more than likely). I think a traumatic experience like that would be plenty enough reason to undergo a personality change. And his basic personality is probably still the same. But he's not happy. Anyone who's dealing with depression is going to withdraw into themselves, and with his fears of forgetting even more of his life (hence all the picture taking) he's also got some pretty severe anxiety.

Underneath all that Ritsuka is still the same person, but will all the weight on his shoulders it's hard for it to emerge.

And yeah, I totally think Seimei did it to make Ritsuka as dependent on him as possible. Bastard.
