Alice was stretched out in a chair, feet up on one of the mahogany tables, turning pages with one red fingernail. She liked the library; it gave her a chance to not go completely stircrazy. If she was reading, she could at least escape a bit into her own world. Her free hand turned the stick of the cherry lollipop in her mouth, which was turning ( Read more... )

After talking to his father & checking in with his brother, Sam had decided it was time for him to explore this place a little bit. As grand as the interior was, he had to admit he wasn't expecting what he found when he stumbled upon the library. It was...

Well it was breath-taking, which even Sam never thought he could say about a library, but he easily could about this one.

When he was done just... staring he took stock of the lack of people around, with the exception of the petite woman lounging at a table, investing in one of the many books and a lollipop.

He supposed now was as good a time as any to start getting to know some of the others around the hotel and add to the dossier.

Sam walked over, leaning in a bit to note the title and author of the book. "Faulkner, huh?" He suggested. "You picked one of his better pieces." Sam offered, attempting to start a conversation with the woman.

Alice didn't start. The stranger had used a soft tone to his voice that was actually pretty soothing. She looked up over the book, letting her eyes trail over his body. He wasn't just tall, he was huge. He was built, and easily twice her size.

She couldn't help grinning, though. "That," she laughed, "was an excellent pickup line." She gestured at him with the lollipop before rolling it back into her mouth. She shut the book after marking her page.

"I haven't read a lot of Faulkner. The stream of conciousness thing threw me for a while. You're a fan, I take it?"

Sam gave a tentative shrug of his broad shoulders. "Just a guy who's done a lot of extracurricular reading over the years." He replied casually and honestly.

He wasn't so much a fan, but he'd read enough of Faulkner over time... and probably at too young of an age because he remembered some of the looks his father would give him, blurry-eyed the morning after a hunt, as Sam would sit on the floor reading.

His Dad would pick out titles with those blurry eyes and then give Sam looks like he wondered what planet he'd landed on the night before because clearly... what the fuck was his son doing reading Faulkner?!

Sam smiled a little studying her mannerisms and overall appearance now that he was up close. Not in a typical 'guy way' either. Just like he was deciding something for himself.

"Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong here, but I'm going to take a stab in the dark and guess." He attempted.

"You wouldn't be Alice, would you?" Sam asked.

"Reading's good for you." She tucked some hair behind her ears, expecting him to sit down and talk books with her. Instead, when he guessed her name in one, her eyes widened.

It got her attention. She swung her legs down, crossing them and leaning back. "I am. Why do you ask?" She squinted a little, wondering if she'd bumped into him in the hall yet.
