untitled

I hate it when people call their art "untitled" for any reason other than "I just couldn't think of a title".

Especially if it's something super simple and dumb like a black and white photo of a lawn chair or something.

It's just so... incredibly douchey.

Am I the only person who feels this way...? :l

stupid shit, art, things that piss me off

I can understand not naming something because you just didn't want to. but I just can't stand it when people are like "I don't want the title to distract from the *~meaning~* of the ~art~!" It's more of the attitude that some people have that I have a problem with.

It depends on if you're talking about stuff hanging in an art gallery or just sketches and stuff an artist has lying around.

Because it does annoy me a bit with art galleries, although some things suit the un-named state of 'untitled'.
But sketchbooks and random bits? Pffft, I'm not naming every little sketch I do. ESPECIALLY if for some reason you think it's good and should go on display. I'd just name it 'untitled sketch 5' with the intention to piss people off.

I mean stuff in art galleries, and even then it's not really the title itself... it's more the attitude of some of the people who title it like that. It feels like they're going "I don't want the title to distract from the *~meaning~* of the ~art~!" and douchey stuff like that. y'know what I mean? >>

Well, as someone who only ever goes to big museum galleries, I tend to not bump into the person who decided naming some untitled would be a good idea. But yes, flouncy, 'artsy' statements like that are annoying.
Then again all the artists I know really hate 'artistic' bullshit like that. Unless they're trying to explain their 'artistic vision' to someone who looks like they're going to buy something or trying to pass their class.
