Haha, I guess whoever painted it was just going from the DVD case and not paying too much attention - they had to paint Arnie next
My Blueberry Nights was nice. I think because it was a Wong Kar Wai film, I knew to expect a certain style and pacing, but it just didn't have the same breathtaking effect that like 2046 and In The Mood For Love do.
it felt like wong kar wai trying to copy a wong kar wai movie. i think the fact chris doyle didn't shoot it made it different in many ways... however beautiful the shots were, i just didn't think framing was as compositionally tailored.
Ohh you're right: it kind of felt like it had to pull back on certain obscurities that are token fare in Wong Kar Wai films, in order to be more accessible to a North American audience, and in that, I felt it lost of a lot of strength.
It was by no means a terribly bad film, but I've this habit of just expecting to see Tony Leung on screen when I think Wong Kar Wai, haha.
I only know John Dang because of you, so yes, I knew you guys lived together! I've actually gone back and read every entry in your lj because I love your photos so much, so I got to see a fair bit of him, haha.
