I have tried both liquid and pencil -- liquid does seem to work better. I'm comfortable applying liquid liner, it's the TAIL part that I am awkward with. Any suggestions with that? I know to start the tail at the edge of my pupil (right?), but mine looks less like a tail and more like really badly smudged hooker eyeliner.

I'm in the same boat . . . I've found that using regular liner as a base and then liquid liner over makes a good start, but it's the flip that always gets me.

Even if I can get one at the right angle and thickness, the second eye never seems to turn out the same way. blah.

also, the spider thing? my worst nightmare.

Exactly. When I finally get a good one, the other looks less like tail and more like an unintentional blob of eyeliner. So frustrating!
