This happens every time AO3 does a fundraiser, which brings so many idiots out of the woodwork but I mostly just ignore/block them.

However, purity culture has been an ongoing issue for some time now. Outside of what I've seen in some areas it's not really being widely discussed as it should be since I think this is a problem that needs to be addressed. So I'm glad this article was written up to properly discuss this issue that has been happening for some time now, since this has been kind of spreading beyond AO3 and into other spaces.

Yeah, Purity Police suck. Man, I love if they made their own site, I would sit back and watch them argue with each other.

That's the thing, if they wanted to they could create their own "safe space", but they won't because they don't care. That would actually require putting time and effort into something productive when all they want to do is harass and attack people for having different opinions than them disguised as this facade of "protecting teh childrens". I think a lot of the time it is mostly performative, but it is still a dangerous rhetoric being spread that is unfortunately doing more harm than good.
