Character discussion: Akira

Oct 17, 2007 16:43

Okay, so I've pretty much read the entire series, gotten to know the characters, so I'm going to go out on a limb and write my opinions/views of them. I'm not going to write about all of them(my GOD what a feat that would be!), but the ones that I know best. Please be nice, I'm in a Bleach craze right now, so I have to make the transfer to SDK...I' ( Read more... )

Akira as a whiny baby is something that I never thought about, but you have to cut him a little slack--I mean, he says that he's around nineteen, but I'd put good money on the fact that he lies about his age and is a few years younger than that. (Which brings me to the "Akira and Yuya are fraternal twins" theory, which I won't go into.) He's an immature kid with daddy and abandonment issues.

Yeah, I agree with you there. From his birth to when Kyo found him, we don't really know how many years that is, or what happened, so he probably is making a rough estimation. But yeah, I think he tries to act above his age, maybe to show those older than him (otherwise known as Tora, his target of choice), how much more mature then them he is. But it backfires on him sometimes. Akira and his one-upmanship...ahh.

Akira and Yuya twins? Haven't heard that one before! Haha, that would be interesting. Their both orphans....hmm...that would destroy many a fan fic!

Or, he knows exactly how old he is and wants to lend himself an air of mystery.

Alas, it exists only in the realm of fannish imagination, and this is fandom--if Shinrei/Hotaru gets written, you can bet some people wouldn't have any qualms about pairing up some more siblings. And think about it--depending on Kamijyo-sensei's mood, Akira's hair goes from orange to white, and when he's blond, he sure looks a lot like her.

I say that Akira is a big, fat, FAKE. He is such a faker he's even convinced himself most times.

YES. I completely agree on this; especially with the way he talks with such polite speech. I think I pretty much agree with your points (despite being an Akira fan, I admit, he does throw tantrums XD). But this is exactly what I like about him; in order to "catch up" to people with samurai blood and the sorts, he was willing to put out his own eyes and fool himself into believing that he's above the others. It just breaks my heart to see his determination.

Bon in a pink apron....

ASKDLFJDLALLA OH GAWD XD But I always imagined Shiseiten to be like a family to Akira; with Bon as the father (mother?) figure, Kyo as the big brother he chases after, and Akari as the teasing uhhh... sister. Brother, whichever one works. ^^'

We can't forget sadist Hotaru.

Sadist implies that he thinks about what he's doing and relishes the pain he causes. Hotaru operates at a rather more primitive level than that!

Akira's problem with the tantrums is that he has no real coping mechanisms for disappointments or setbacks, because he's been raised by Kyo, and Kyo's Way doesn't admit that a person should ever have disappointments or setbacks. So all his reactions for those situations are going to be on a very primitive level.

It's rather curious that Kyo, raised by Muramasa, should raise Akira the way that he does, but I guess Kyo's personality just can't wrap itself around Muramasa's kind firmness, and maybe Akira's volatile personality wouldn't be well handled by that ... although, really, I bet Muramasa could done a decent job with Akira.

Akira needs limits and structure. He needs to know where he fits in the world. When Kyo leaves (which I firmly believe was at least in part because he saw that Akira's self-image was being completely subsumed into his mentor - Akira was becoming unable to think of himself except in relationship to Kyo), it really shatters Akira's world. He probably would have benefitted from ever more time without Kyo ( ... )

Yeah...I do suppose that Akira has a lack of structure in his life, I never went as to think that far ( ... )

I agree with a lot of what you say actually. Granted, I have to take off my yaoi goggles for the rest of what I'm about to say ( ... )

I agree with everything you said, but there is one thing I want to add...though they fight Akira and Tora obviously feed off each other. They are sparing partners. I think a lot of the attention Akira pays Yuya is simply to piss Tora off. Like previously mentioned, Tora is the only one who really gets under Akira's skin be it because of Tora birth, rank, or his childish attitude. Those two really become friends as the story progresses (whether they would admit it or not ( ... )
