Murder Mystery
You know those gifts that are trendy at one point and everyone seems to have gotten one but it never gets used and you just end up storing it somewhere and moving it around every time you clean or move from place to place?
Well one of those things are those Murder Mystery games that were very popular over 10 years ago. Funny thing is for all our Larping I don't think anyone I know has ever played one. Until now.
Buffy decided she had enough of seeing this game she got for her engagement party years ago moved from place to place and wanted to try it out.
So last Friday after having a few friends commit to this (you need at least 6 people to play the suspects) she was able to finally run this game. We even ended up with 7 (the game will give you some extra characters who are not suspects). Me, Buffy, her hubby, Anya, Giles, Riley & Willow.
And we played parts in the A taste for Wine & Murder game.
So here's the thing about larpers playing this game. We run rampant once we get our roles so much so we start making stuff up and find out we were almost on target with our accusations. The whole game takes place while you are eating a dinner (so you actually end up having a several course meal) and we got so ahead of ourselves in the roles. The object is to find out which one of is the Murderer while in the process of defending yourself against accusations from other players. So we are screaming, yelling, name calling, throwing things at each other and hoping the neighbors don't actually think we are discussing a murder. There was even almost a food fight.
It was so much fun!!!
Probably didn't help that several bottles of wine were consumed. Me though I had stuck the sparkling apple cider. But it was fun drinking it out of wine glass. Heck, Buffy was just happy she finally got to use her fancy dinner wear. Yup, normally a party would require paper plates. But for this game we actually had a beautifully set table - the kind most people buy fancy china for but never really use. And we even dressed up a bit.
I think we were going to make a top 10 list of the evening, but I can't even remember most of what we said anymore.
Giles: "I'll have you know my bed is fine."
Me: "Wow. I think he just propositioned the three of us at once!"
Giles: *entire head turning read* "Wait, that came out a lot different then I meant it too.."
Riley: *walking in the house wearing a leather jacket and dark sunglasses* "I'm in character. I've been practicing the whole ride over."
Willow: (the entire game) "I'm not Irish. I'm Scottish!!"
Hubby: "That's what I said. Now give the Irish woman her potatoes."
Me: *after throwing suspicion on Giles' character by mentioning our affair* "Yes, so why were you an hour late when you were supposed to meet me at the hotel?"
Giles: "I can't believe you told everyone about our affair!"
Me: *looking at note card* "Yeah... neither can I. But since I did, answer the question!!"
Me: "Gold-digger"
Anya: "Tramp"
Me: "Slut"
Anya: "Hussy"
Hubby: "Ralph's a good boy."
Everyone: "That's not Ralph!!"
Hubby: "Well whoever he is, he's a good boy."
Buffy: "That's was a horrible earthquake last night wasn't it?"
Riley: "Oh that was me and the missus ain't the right sweetie?"
Anya: "Aww snookums, stop it you're embarrassing me."
Giles: "So in germany, we have a lot of time to... look at porn."
Everyone: *GASP*
Me: "I don't even know how to respond to that."
Giles: "So Miss Merlot do you remember posing for this!" *holds up sheet of paper*
Buffy: *grabbing at paper* "Give me that!!"
Hubby: *holding up hand* "Pass that over this way, Papa Vito needs to see him some porn!"
So now I'm gonna go and try to find the Western themed one I got as a gift eons ago and maybe we can play that one. Assuming my Mom hasn't chucked it out yet.

Apparently I didn't have to wait to go to my folks house. I had my Western themed one sitting right there on my bookshelf next to a bunch of puzzles. It's done quite a bit of traveling too.
