Why I love L&O:UK

I am a loyal viewer of all the Law & Order series to date. The original is my favourite, so I was sad to see it get cancelled after two decades on air. As the American versions of each of these series are up for contract reviews, it's good too see myself, and my fellow American viewers get to see the budding UK series.  The shock to most of us, ( Read more... )

I agree. My sister and I have been loving L&O UK. We are driving my brother in law crazy with all the British cop show. LOL!

Though I do remember when Claire died, she did go to the bar to pull Lennie's drunk butt out of there. Lennie always felt bad that she came to get him and died.

I've also been looking up the original eps to compare to the British eps.

Each UK episode shows which US episode it is based on at the beginning of the show (during the credits). You can search google that way possibly.

I've been watching Law and Order since it began, and my answer is, well it is Law and Order. It is like explaining why I like those hostess chocolate cupcakes with the sugared shorting fillings. (Grin) I remember joking in another forum about ten years ago that one day All shows would be Law and Order. I think Law and Order evolved from Homicide Life on the Streets, which was some of the best television ever, however, Law and Order "ripped from the headlines" premise some time came off as insensitive-- because it was in some cases-, but it was like worrying a tooth ache. The actors were always top notch, the scripts got a bit preachy at times, but all of it was forgivable. I like the original, love SUV and Criminal Intent, and LOUK seems to combine all the best elements of all the shows. I really can give or take all shippy elements in the show, as opposed to loving the working relationship on the show. I don't "ship" for example Elliot and Olivia, but I don't like people messing with their professional partnership. But with ( ... )

I've never watched Law & Order, and don't have too much interest in procedural law enforcement shows generally. I'll watch them if there's nothing else on, but my main interest in media is character development, which procedurals tend to be short on, and I'm more of a genre person anyway, sci-fi or period fare is my first true love.

So really, the main reason I watch L&O|UK is the fact that it's set in London. To me, it's exotic. The accents, the slang, the architecture, the wigs, the little ways that British culture is just different from American.... All really lovely, and foreign, sort of like the period pieces I adore, just... a different period. If I'd happened across a modern British drama, instead of a procedural, I'd probably be just as enthralled. But I do also think the acting is really excellent, a higher caliber than I'm used to on TV. While the only reason I gave L&O|UK a try was Jamie Bamber, at this point, I'd probably keep watching even if he left (though I hope very much he doesn't!).

I've been a fan of these shows for years.

This is also why I watch L&O:UK. And I got my mother into them to. lol She doesn't watch the American versions though. She says there are too many to get into. ha

I didn't know that the UK versions were based on the American shows. I thought they were ripped from the headlines from the news in the UK.

Reasons why I watch Law & Order: UK
I watched the original from the start so it is great to see it reworked
I lived in London for many years so it nice to see place and accents that I recognize
The London dress sense
The legal system is very similar to our own so I can relate to the court stuff * I work in the legal system*
I love the cast and their interactions
Jamie and Freema!

It's not the sort of show I'd normally watch (I'm more into SF&F or period dramas) but I'm a big fan of Freema, so I started watching for Alesha. I stayed because I fell in love with Ben Daniels' James, also George, Ronnie and Natalie.

I'm gutted, though, that we're losing Ben - he and Freema have such fantastic chemistry, and James and Alesha's yin yang relationship is beautifully portrayed.
