I always wondered if he was related to Q in some way. I hate tht character, Q, and didn't pay too much attention to those episodes. Best Q moment? When Whoopi socked him in the face. I cheered.

I thought that Trelayne, the Q, Apollo, the Metrons, Charlie X & the Organians were all species of the next level of lifeform up from corporeal sentients. They exist all throughout Star Trek and have been some of my favourite characters.
