I hadn't heard this. I think I prefer his work on Wallace and Gromit (for which he won an Oscar) to his Doctor Who, although I'm very fond of Nightmare of Eden.

I'd say their work was distinctly patchy, but generally not lacking in ideas and undoubtedly influential.
