Distraction is an old friend of mine. Unfortunately, my brain isn't easily torn from the pain of the day, so distraction has to be worthwhile on its own, engaging, even Important. Here's an attempt ( Read more... )

1. "Hit Me With Your Best Shot" by Pat Benatar. That is all.
2. Not weird that he's a fan. I find long-distance flirtation unsatisfying, but it can be fun when that is really all you can handle.

I think flirting with fans is a good reason to be *in* a band, so clearly I'm okay with this. Especially if it's a hot fan. I've been trying to convince people of the wisdom of using a band to pick up people who are not *in* the same band for years now. Go forth and be flirtatious!

As for number 1, of course, context is everything. But the phrase has definite James Brown overtones (his trombonist Fred Wesley even titled his memoir after the phrase - http://www.amazon.com/Hit-Me-Fred-Recollections-Sideman/dp/0822329093 - so I think there's long-established precedent there.
And 2 - I will say that several friends of mine started out as fans of the band I was playing in at the time, and the friendship stayed even after the band disappeared. So bridging the gap between "fan" and actual person involved in your life is something that happens occasionally and is not something to be particularly feared. If *all* of the people you interact with are fans, then there's possibly a problem.

1. You do realize the irony of using James Brown as an example here, right?

2. No on is talking friendship, they are talking flirtation. I notice you didn't discuss the fan you dated here.

I don't see anything weird about #2.

If I were in a band like yours, my main two objectives would be:

I. Free Palestine!
II. get @zz

1. "hit me" is probably fine.
2. It's just weird to you cuz you've never had the option to do this without more serious ethical conflicts because you were always dating people IN your band. So. (sing it) A whole new world...just use it don't abuse it and all is FINE. To work off of another comment though, if you find yourself exclusively flirting with fans, something may be very wrong.

so to clarify, the 'hit me' in question *is* about violence, not a playful "hey temim! take that solo! hit me!" um. yeah.
