Arthur often teases him for being clingy.
Merlin doesn’t care because he knows.
He knows that one day he will be too late to halt the errant stab of a sword or the fatal flight of an arrow. That eventually an injury, or an illness, or the indomitable force of old age will wrest Arthur from his grasp and leave him behind.
So Merlin takes time to touch Arthur; pressing kisses on pouting lips and tangling their fingers together. To wrap himself around Arthur as they sleep and as they whisper their innermost desires.
Because all that matters is now.
