The Doctor, the Widow and the Wardrobe. I'm not sure if I find it charming that the Christmas specials are unabashed re-works of classic stories (A Chirstmas Carol last year, Narnia this year) or if it's just lazy.

Spoilers, in which I may have developed a Moffat=sexism bias, with references to the new Tintin movie )

musings, doctor who, movies

It's not just you -- I haven't seen the special yet (I'm only just getting into Dr. Who, am currently on early Season 2) but I've seen the same comments about sexism from people who aren't into feminist paranoia. ;)

By the way, Happy New Year! Come on over and have a belated celebration with us on the RH board. And stick around, finally. ;)

Sometimes I think Moffat just doesn't like writing characters very much - he loves the flash bang cleverness but is not so great on the characterization - which is why I think he makes a better showrunner for Sherlock than Doctor Who. Which is a contrast to the RTD era (seasons 1-4) - if you keeping watching through to seasons 5 and 6 you'll probably notice a huge difference in the feel of the show. I love Eleven and the characters in 5 and 6 but I think its more to do with the actors making the most of what they're given...
