I'm going to see it this weekend - I'm super excited! I'm glad you put a lot of thought into this review - I know a couple of other people in Australia who just wrote it off for being over the top and silly and aimed at America. And, as an America, I can really see how it is...but I still want to see it. It looks visually stunning, and I love Hugh Jackman! XP Anyway, yay!

Honestly, silly and over the top is Baz's style - he doesn't do subtle, so I don't really understand people hating on him for that! :D

I don't think it's completely targeted at America either - well, it is, but not in a way that annoyed me. And the moment with the kangaroo is certainly not! I'm actually not sure how that will translate to an oversees audience. Er...you'll see!

Hope you enjoy it! Hugh Jackman is lovely to look at if nothing else.

Yeah, Australian stereotypes annoy me. No, I don't ride a kangaroo to school everday, and I don't have a pet emu. I have a pet cat - unique, huh?
Anyway, I haven't seen this yet but I was interested to read your review. The Stolen Generation stuff sounds good. Nicole Kidman annoys me now. I didn't mind her in Cold Mountain and Moulin Rogue because she kind of could move her face then but now she just looks weird.

That's one of the reasons I never really warmed to Steve Irwin, he was such a walking cliche, although I'm sure he was actually just being himself.

Nicole Kidman just looks like a doll now, so pale and her skin so tight it is odd, and a shame, because she was so pretty.

Wow this review perfectly sums up everything I thought about the film yet was too lazy to write about in my own journal! :P

For the most part, it was a fantastic movie, but as you pointed out there were a few bits that were a little off, eg the overuse of 'crikey' etc but I still found it watchable. I can understand why it didn't do well in the US.

Thanks! I really wanted it to do well in the US, but also understand why it didn't. I can't help thinking that if it were released in more stable times (i.e people had the money to waste on pretty, epic, foreign-country-based movies) it would have done better.
