yesterday was a great day for america. i have yet to decide if it was a good day for california. proposition 4, which would force minors to notify their parents for an abortion may be narrowly defeated (thankfully). things don't look well for proposition 8, which would re-write the constitution to include a ban on gay marriages. as of 8:20 am,

My political science education is admittedly lacking. Doesn't a constitutional amendment require a 2/3 majority vote to go through? Or is that just 2/3 of the states for a change to the federal constitution?

I admit, I was extremely disappointed to see how well Prop 8 has done in the vote so far. Regardless of how anybody feels about gay marriage, a CONSTITUTIONAL BAN is not the right way to go about solving this. It's like watering the begonias with a firehose. (For the record, I'm **ALL FOR** gay marriage. I think that any two people who choose to devote themselves to each other though marriage - regardless of M+F or M+M or F+F - should benefit equally from that union under the law.)

i always thought it required a 2/3 vote too. to raise taxes requires a 2/3 vote. but if it's unconstitutional to begin with, it could be overturned, like prop 187.
