LOTSEEKERFIC AWARDS 2013: RULES
Welcome to the second round of the LotSeekerFic Awards!
The format of the LotSeekerFic Awards is based on the Dokuga Awards of the Inuyasha Fandom, founded with the intention of supporting and encouraging authors of the Legend of the Seeker Fandom.
Below is the award schedule, general rules, and definitions. More specific rules on how to nominate and authors/fics that are ineligible in certain categories will be in the nomination posts of each category when they become available.

To ensure that a diverse array of fic gets recognized, the awards are will be divided into the following categories and subcategories. In the event that a category and/or subcategory gets less than 3 nominations, it will be combined with another category/subcategory.

GENERAL RULES
Below is information you need and a few rules you MUST follow for nominations:
The fic does not have to be posted tolotseekerfic . All fic is eligible unless it violates one of the other criteria.
Anyone may nominate. You do not have to be a member of the comm, or even have an LJ account.
You do not have to nominate in every category, or all at once. You may do so in several comments.
Both works in progress and completed fics are eligible.
Any LotS fic that has not been nominated in previous awards is eligible.
Any LotS fic that has been nominated before is eligible for the 2013 Awards so long as it has been updated since February 2012.
Fics that placed first in a subcategory in previous award rounds are not eligible for that subcategory until two rounds after their win. (Ex: Won R/K Best Romance 2011. Eligible for R/K Best Romance again in 2013.) Check past winner lists when making nominations. They are linked in the sidebar.
Any fic that won 5 awards in previous award rounds is ineligible in every category until two rounds after the win of the 5 awards. (Ex: Won 5 awards in 2011. Black listed from all awards categories until 2013.) There are no blacklisted fics due to this rule for the 2013 award cycle, so you may discard it for now.
Nominate using the Google Forms. Follow the directions at the top of the form.
You cannot nominate yourself. Doing so will result in the nomination not being accepted and a warning from the awards moderators.
Nominations are done blindly. Only the moderators will know what was nominated by whom.
The work must be exclusively about the characters from the Legend of the Seeker television series. No nominations for fic based heavily on the Sword of Truth book series will be accepted. Guidelines have been developed by the moderators for this purpose. You can find them HERE.
Due to lowered fandom participation, there are no longer any limitations on how many fics you may nominate. You can nominate as many times as you want for any category, so long as you do not nominate yourself.
Each fic is allowed to be nominated into maximum 6 different subcategories across all of the larger categories. We will take them on a first come first serve basis, meaning that once a single fic is nominated into 6 different subcategories, each subsequent nomination will be rejected.
Each fic is allowed to be nominated into a maximum of 2 different subcategories within one large category. We will take them on a first come first serve basis meaning that once a single fic is nominated into 2 different subcategories within one large category, each subsequent nomination will be rejected within that category.
- Ex: "Sample Fic" is nominated in R/K Best AU, R/K Best Romance, Best Portrayal Richard, Best Portrayal Kahlan, Best Original Character, and Best Rare Pair Het because it also focuses on Zedd/Shota. This is fine. But notice that it cannot be nominated for more than two subcategories (AU, Romance, etc) within one larger pairing category or more that two characters in the Best Portrayal category.
The work must be in compliance with the definition of the category into which it was nominated.
When a piece of work is rejected, the awards moderators will NOT notify the nominator. If a fic you nominated doesn't make it onto the nomination list, feel free to contact us. However, discretion will be used in regards to revealing the reason for a rejected nomination. Rejections usually occur because of a violation of one of the rules above, or an author declining to participate.
NOTE: A nomination must be accepted by the author. If an author chooses to decline the nomination, their fic will not be included in the awards.
Authors: If you reject a nomination because you do not feel that your fic belongs in the category it was nominated in, the moderators will not simply move your fic to another category. A rejected nomination is just rejected. If you do not want your fic in the category it was nominated in, you will simply have to reject the nomination and hope that the fic is nominated in a different category. The moderators will not entertain any argument on this point.
The pass phrase to nominate is contained in this paragraph. It is deep, deep, within this paragraph. Are you sure you read the rules? Yes? Okay then, the pass phrase is people are stupid. It must be all lowercase. And typed in Zedd's voice.
DEFINITIONS
These definitions are meant to be guidelines rather than all inclusive explanations of each genre/category. The moderators ask that you use your own common sense in interpreting definitions. We will not entertain any argument or debate on the definitions of each category/award.
Best Action/Adventure
Action: "actual engagement in fighting an enemy; military or naval combat" Adventure: "participation in exciting undertakings or enterprises" Does it make you sit on the edge of your seat? Do the characters battle adversity on a daily basis? Have the characters embarked on an epic quest?
Best Alternate Universe/Reality
"facts of setting or characterization in the canon universe being explored or written about are deliberately changed" For this category anything that walks outside the events and relationships established by the show. Anything that moves the characters outside of the setting of the show is AU. Anything that changes the main characters beyond the basic core attributes the show granted them is AU.
Best Canon
"the works of an author that have been accepted as authentic." This category is probably the most contested in any award group for all fandoms. For this award group, I am going to put a simple disclaimer: If the story is set in the show's usual universe and keeps the character origins, events, and motivations for character development, and plot arcs that the show created, then it is canon.
Best Darkfic/Horror
"an overwhelming and painful feeling caused by something frightfully shocking, terrifying, or revolting; a shuddering fear" Darkfic: (my own definition) Anything that brings the reader into a world of pain and suffering through abuse of the characters at the hands of the antagonist or internal strife. If it includes graphic rape, murder, abuse (mental or emotional), a character that is suicidal or possessed of depressing thoughts/outlook on life that colors the majority of the story in glum tones it can be considered a dark!fic. If the story is aimed to frighten or 'gross out' the reader is can be considered horror. Please note that all fics nominated to this category must include appropriate warnings, or at least a "author chooses not to warn" notation.
Best Drama/Angst
"any situation or series of events having vivid, emotional, conflicting, or striking interest or results" Stories that delve into the lives of the characters and take the readers with them on a journey through the gambit of emotive expression.
Best Gen
Any fic that focuses on platonic relationships or a single character, rather than a romantic relationship.
Best Humor/Parody
Did it make you laugh? Did it deliberately spoof the show?
BestSmut
A sexual scene from any story, oneshot, or drabble. (Include the chapter where the scene appears if in a chapter fic.)
Best Oneshot/Drabble
For the purpose of this award, a oneshot/drabble is anything that is posted in one post and 15k or less. Also, some sites cannot fit an entire oneshot within one chapter. If the author states that the story is a oneshot but it is spread throughout more than one chapter and the posting date is the same for all chapters then it is also allowable.
Best Original Character
Many authors use original characters. The frightened stable boy, the grateful mother, the eccentric midwife, the unique villain or maybe the original love interest. Did the author create a character that was interesting and most importantly, not a Mary Sue? Please indicate the name of the character in the nomination.
Best Portrayal
Did the author create an in-depth characterization of the character that, while it may diverge from the show, managed to attract the reader?
Best Romance
"ardent emotional attachment or involvement between people; love" Stories that have developed a believable romance between two or more characters (in the case of OT3). 'Believable' is subjective, and it is up the those nominating/voting to draw their own line on that quantifier and vote their "Best." This encompasses fluff to starcrossed tragedy, and everything in between.
Best Reviewer
An award to acknowledge those users that consistently provide helpful feedback and support for authors.
Best Crossover
Any fic that combines Legend of the Seeker characters with canon, characters, and situations from a different fandom. Note that for the purposes of this award, Sword of Truth (the book!universe) does not count as a separate fandom.
