Ooh, thank you so much for this lovely gift! I love that you managed to work the tattoos into this, and I love the little allusions to old methods, too. Lovely. And I'm so delighted that you went with a rarer pairing. Balin deserves some action, too after all, and you just know that he'd have so many tricks to teach Thorin. ;)
I also liked the little side trail of Fili's new tattoos (and that allusion to Fili/Dwalin, oh yes). And poor Bilbo's bewilderment when the Dwarves sullenly close ranks to protect their secret rites. It felt very appropriate.
Oh yay! I'm glad you enjoyed it. I got bit with this around the same time as the Fili/Kili bunny bit me, but I like the challenge of a rare pair. Besides, you're absolutely right: Balin doesn't get nearly enough action (especially when you consider that Book!Balin is actually about 20 years YOUNGER than Thorin. Though I went for Movie!Balin here, because it's possible I might just have a tiny crush on Ken Stott's voice. Maybe not so tiny. Okay, it's ridiculously huge. But seriously. His voice.)
This was fun! I just can picture Martin Freeman!Bilbo's expression observing the inking process and the good-natured bantering and laughter of the dwarves at his face... you're creating a lovely tradition and cultural detail here, giving the relationship between Balin and Thorin also a new angle for me. That tattoo sounds great!
Glad you enjoyed! I can so see Thorin with a full-on back plate of Erebor. And Balin...you know Balin is both Ink Master and Thorin's advisor in ALL things. Yes. Yes he is.
