Argh. I just typed up a loooooooong comment and it got eaten before I posted. *sigh*

What I was saying was that I really enjoy Thorongil fics when I stumble across them. I enjoy seeing how the seeds of events and motivations that blossom in the later books are sown. What's especially nice here is that you can see how events in the world and motivations from the characters are setting up things thta will come.

I liked seeing Eomer caught between young adulthood and adulthood, how that impacts his interactions with Thorongil. While I enjoyed the heat in their last scene in the past, I really enjoyed how the fic ended in the present of the story of LOTR.

Thanks so much for the lovely surprise!

It's really irritating when LJ eats stuff, but I thank you for the kind thought and I'm really pleased you enjoyed your gift. I wanted to let readers see some stirrings of things that might come to life later on in their story and it seemed right to let their story come full circle, with a mature, confident, Eomer 'claiming' Elessar as his own, taking on the responsibility for his lover's pleasure, taking the burden, for all he denied it to Theoden, from his shoulders.

As always you weave such a compelling tale. I really love the subtlety of Wormtongue's deceit, the bond that develops between Aragorn and Eomer, how they are in many ways already unit as they present the events of the ambush to Theoden. I love Eomer's youth in this, his spirit and uncertainty, and Thorongil's presence in both his and Theoden's lives. It's intense and beautiful, and so great that the final clasp is fastened only at the Ring wars end.

and this display in its honesty was so far removed from the youthful trials shared with his cousin and friends in the long grass that he thrilled at the courage of it
Only one of many gorgeous lines. This is such a fantastic fic.

You're very kind and I'm so glad you liked it. It seemed to me that Wormtongue must have been a curious, but essentially harmless, figure about Theoden's court up until the point that he had the King fully under his control and it was a chance to show the emotional currents swirling around Eowyn beginning to have an impact on the characters. Eomer is a challenge to the writer and to himself in that he would be so easy to make one dimensional, but I tend to think of him as very like a young horse, wilful but essentially wanting to please. *g*

I liked the imagery of the mithril chain. Great!

I'm pleased it worked for you and thankyou for letting me know. I liked the idea of something that might seem slight, with fine links that drew no attention to itself on a man's wrist but which was unbreakable, demanding the most measured consideration before it was closed and took on responsibilities lasting a lifetime.
