More Crafts

Here are two more projects. These were made a year ago.

A decoupaged purse. Most of the images are medieval, rather than Lord of the Rings, but I was making it to test out some ideas for the next item...

These are my decoupaged hobbit shoes. I made them to wear at my niece's wedding, and have worn them a few times since.

To do the shoes, I used a purchased pair of inexpensive black leather shoes with a good-sized vamp. I sanded the vamp lightly, and applied a coat of gesso. Once that was dry, I used Mod Podge, and layered tissue: sky blue and two shades of green. This was my background. Then I made copies of several images, which I cut out and decoupaged over the background, and finally I made a copy of two quotes which I did in calligraphy and tore them out and decoupaged last. I applied a coat of indoor/outdoor acrylic sealer, and finally, using a good fabric glue, applied ribbon trim to the place where the vamp met the upper.

The right shoe has a quotation from JRRT's essay "On Fairy Stories": "...joy beyond the walls of the world, poignant as grief..."

The left shoe has: "All that is gold does not glitter/ not all who wander are lost..."

I used a calligraphy style similar to that which Bilbo used in the Red Book in the movie.
