I loved reading this story. Occasionally stories appear that FEEL like canon and this is definitely one of them. This glimpse of "the fabulous Belladonna Took" is very intriguing; I hope you will tell us more about her one day!

The portrait of the Old Took is wonderful; I like him especially because he is very like my elderly Pippin! Patient, thoughtful, sympathetic, not unmindful of his personal power but judicious in its use. Very nicely drawn!

Oh, wow! Thank you! I had to figure out why Bag End was partly built with Took money as was stated in The Hobbit, and I figured the courtship of a Took lass would not be without a few bumps in the road to romance.

And it makes me feel so good to hear your thoughts about "my" Gerontius and Pippin, for it's always been a large part of my own fanon that Pippin "took after" his illustrious ancestor even more than most of his other cousins, so I kind of "reverse-engineered" my Gerontius based on what we know of Pippin himself. It makes me smile that you noticed!

Oh! And it turned out beautifully! I love the reconciliation, especially, and the way she almost seemed to be waiting for him at the inn.

Gerontius is just as I'd imagine him, wise, somewhat abrupt, understanding but also under the surface you can feel that he is stern, holding high expectations and *expecting* them, no less.

Hope I'm making sense, my first cup of tea is still brewing. Happy birthday, Bilbo!

Yes, well I had some excellent advice on that scene! ;-D

I think to keep a clan like the Tooks in line, and especially with twelve of his own children, Gerontius would *have* to be all of those things and then some!

(And you made perfect sense!)

Aw, this was so sweet. I love stories of Bilbo's parents. I didn't stop smiling from start to finish.
