You're welcome, Nancy. That scene always devastated me emotionally, not to mention that it was completely illogical. So it was very satisfying to fix it!

I know what you mean. I hate that scene, too, and I love how you rewrote it.

Now, *THIS* is a much more realistic scenario! Of course Frodo would never have trusted Gollum, and I never thought he did. (Even the way PJ filmed it didn't convince me.)

A really nice treatment of a moment that definitely needed fixing!

PJ managed to take away a lot of Frodo's courage, and with this scene he took away his wisdom. I hated that. No, Frodo would not have believed Gollum. He pitied Gollum, but he knew he could not really be trusted. Thanks for this opportunity to fix something that has bothered me for a long time!

And then Mr. Frodo spoke, and a thrill went through me.

“No,” he said quietly, but without the least hesitation. “No. It was not Sam who did this thing.”

Yay!

It was hard to decide what to fix, but in the end, this scene has always hurt the most to watch.

Oh, it's beautiful and in-chracter, too.

Yes, Frodo is tired and weaker, but he wouldn't have banished Sam and followed Sméagol like he was his best friend.

It is a lot more cannon to have the two friends facing adversity together no matter what.

Very touching!

Thanks, Nimue! I was able to fix a couple of things here. One, to restore Frodo's strength and wisdom, because Frodo never would have sent Sam away and placed all his trust in Gollum. And two, they will now enter Shelob's Lair together, the way it should have been (imo!)

Definitely the right thing here! And to have Gollum have to retrieve the lembas was perfect! It demonstrates the strength and sagacity much as the book version does--that Frodo is nowhere as soft as either Gollum believed or Sam feared!

Thank you! That's exactly what I wanted to accomplish- to show Frodo's enduring strength and his sagacity. He pitied Gollum and needed his help, but he knew that he could not really trust Gollum as he could trust Sam. That scene really, really bothered me!
