Author's Note: Fixing Peter Jackson’s vision

The politest way I can say this is I wish that Peter Jackson had hired and relied on a continuity crew. When I was young and still in school, I was told that I would make a good continuity person because I was “so very anal retentive”; I, of course, choose to see this as a good thing, there should be someone on the set concerned with did the shot before end with him smoking or eating, was it a red mug or a blue mug, in his right hand or his left, how many buttons were unbuttoned. And because there are so many, MANY places where Mr. Jackson doesn’t remember to carry out his own vision of what was happening, I choose a scenario that may be dear to many readers thoughts, only wish I had the photography skills to go air brush the relevant frames. Since I don’t {heavy, heavy sigh}, I’ll leave you to image the scenes with the “proper” amount of attire and give you this little drabble with my element instead.

The Return of the King: The Tower of Cirith Ungol:

Book:    “He was naked, lying as if in a swoon on a heap of filthy rags: his arms flung up, shielding his head and across his side there ran an ugly whip-weal.”

Movie:  “We best find you some clothes. You can’t go walking through Mordor in naught but your skin.” (Ps. At this point he’s still in some form of trousers.)

The Tip of the Thorns

“Oh, Sam, you really meant to save me from all those orcs by yourself. You must have been the most blest being, I can’t imagine what would have gone through my mind if I had known that all those things stood between you and I. I’m not sure I have the courage to do what you just did.”

“There’s nothing for it. Come on.  Let’s just make it down the hill for starters.”(movie quote) As they finish sliding down the hill, “Wouldn’t you know it, the only thriving plants in Mordor would have to be nettles and thorns. Let’s get you untangled.”
