How sweet and perfectly hobbity...but then, it being a Dreamflower fic, I'm not at all surprised that you got this spot-on, right down to the very hobbity song that sounds as if it's been sung for years and years.

Happy New Year, darling. :)

Oh, my dear Dreamflower! I cannot thank you enough for this marvelous, wonderful Yulefic. HUGS! You gave me not one Yule story but many wrapped into one. The "awful" gift was funny, and the memories interspersed within the hours and activities of First Yule day were just perfect.

The best part of all was the dream that Merry shared with Frodo. I couldn't help smiling and nearly weeping at the same time; it was so tender and sweet and it filled my heart to brimming with joy that Merry was gifted with the presence of the friend whom he's missed for so long.

Thank you! a hundred thank yous! It's so much more than I expected and I'll be printing off a copy of it to save in my box of special keepsakes. Happy Yule! :)

Oh, I am so happy that you enjoyed it! You couldn't have asked for anything I'd have liked better to write! I knew at once when I saw it which Yule would be perfect for lots of memories!

I should put something in the notes: little Callie's awful gift was inspired by a bit in the childrens' book Five Little Peppers and How They Grew.

I think that Frodo watched over his kin and friends as much as he could from across the sea-- and with a friend like Gandalf/Olorin, an occasional dream might work.

I am so happy that you liked your gift-- that is the best thing of all to hear about an exchange story, that it pleased it's intended recipient!!

What a splendid, moving, hobbity story. The memories are bittersweet, but Merry has found a way balance them and face the future. I love the banter especially, such as as...

Pippin chuckled. "I sometimes think you wish the world had stopped when you were only six."

Merry looked startled at that, and then chuckled. "Ah, but then we would never have had you around, would we now?"

"Quite true! You would never have known how deprived you were not to know my splendid self!"

Oh thank you dear! You know that for me the highest compliment is to say a story is "hobbity"!

And I'm glad you liked the bantering moments--I have such fun writing them, and I don't think that Merry and Pippin would ever have gotten over doing that, no matter how old they were!

This was truly lovely, and the passage where Merry and Frodo are able to meet again in his dreams, that was simply wonderful. What a lovely Yule fic.

I'm so glad you enjoyed it! I like to think that in some way, Frodo might have been allowed to check on his loved ones from time to time, and dreams seem a logical way to do that. I'm pleased that it worked.

Just a very lovely tale, Dreamflower! I loved the back and forth conversations between Merry and Pippin, the vision of the wedding was so beautiful! And throughout the story there is hope and yet such a sense of sadness, of endings...beautifully told.
