Frodo shivered as he closed the book and looked down to consider the young face looking up at him so expectantly. It wasn’t just a matter of arithmetic, he realized, that he needed to explain. How does one explain to a Hobbit as young as Peregrin Took the use of euphemisms?
LOLOLOLOL! *oh mercy*wipes eyes* Good heavens!
I saw where this was going as soon as Pippin began saying it didn't work the same for hobbits!
I suspect Merry knew exactly how Pippin would respond to that bit about "multiplying", and that Paladin knew only too well what sort of task he was foisting off on Frodo.
Still, it should not be too hard for a hobbit of Frodo's intelligence to explain that some words have more than one meaning.
Yes, what started out as a lesson in mathematics has become a study of history, cosmology, philosophy, literature, and now language usage! Heh! Am so glad it gave you such a chuckle. I enjoyed it!
I rather suspect he is, heh! Was Merry innocent, or did he insist all multiply alike just to mess with the thoughts of an already often aberrant Pippin? And Paladin does appear to have foisted "That Talk" off onto Frodo, doesn't he?
I learned of cambric tea while in England one year on a visit, so I like to include it--seems something very Hobbity, doesn't it? And I'm certain that at times Frodo's various natures would find themselves at war!

That was adorable, though. I loved the bit about Frodo's "Bagginsish thrift" versus his "Brandybuck revulsion." Very funny!
And I've never known about cambric tea. I had to look it up to know what you meant and now I've learned something new. :D
