Pass It On

"Thank you, Sam-dad," said little Rose-lass as she took her mended doll from her father's hands and gave it a hug.

"You're welcome, RosyPosy," he answered, bestowing his own hug to his younger daughter. "There now, you remember that Frodo-lad didn't mean to step on Dolly."

She nodded solemnly and went on her way.

Frodo-lad looked up from his work on the herbaceous border along the front path. "Hullo, Rosie. Are you still angry with me?"

"No,you didn't mean to. Can I help?" She knelt beside him, and handed him the next little plant.

"Thank you, Frodo-lad," said Elanor, as he folded the clothes was taking off the line.

"That's all right. Rosie-lass helped me put out those bedding plants, so I got finished sooner than I thought I would," her brother answered.

"Thank you, Ellie," said her mother, as Elanor took little Merry and Pippin off to play so that her mother could rest. "That's very kind of you."

"Ah, Rose, this hits the spot," said Sam, taking the mug of cold ale. "Thank you, love."

She sat down by him. "I had a chance to come out and sit with you, since Ellie's watching the little ones."
