The Sun Also Rises

Ever-deepening gloom weighed down his heart.
"Wind is turning; morning will bring new things."
Yet he neither saw hope of morning
Nor felt any wind, changed or unchanged.

A weight of horror and doubt settled,
Time poised in uncertainty;
They were too late...

Suddenly, at last beyond doubt -- a change!
Wind in his face, light glimmering;
Clouds dimly seen, morning lay beyond them.

Arise! Fell deeds awake!
Spear shall be shaken, shield be splintered
Ere the sun rises!

Golden shield uncovered shone like the sun.
Morning came, and a wind from the sea;
Darkness was removed -- the sun rises!
