Oh, poor Illya! How this must rankle, to be bested by Napoleon at chess!

I remember the look he had on his face when Miki beat him at chess in 'Her Master's Voice Affair'... and I thought that it was funny.

Also, in 'The Alexander the Greater Affair' Illya is Napoleon's biggest fan, it seems, cheering quite enthusiastically when he won the match.

I think that Illya appreciates Napoleon's genius at tactics, and wants to learn from him. Of course, he'd never admit that OUT LOUD... *chuckles*

Ah,yes! I'd forgotten about the chess in AtG! But, no matter how much he'd want to learn from Napoleon, Illya still hates to lose at anything! While those two are truly a team in their work, they're quite competitive in anything that doesn't jeopardize a mission, lol!

Excellent stuff! I wrote a ficlet about Illya and Napoleon playing chess, but was marginally hampered about the fact that I know nothing about chess LOL - I'm glad it will never see the light of day *g*
