Luke Skywalker is majorly OOC. Mostly in the way he treats Jacen/Caedus -- how could he have spared a moment's pity for Vader, yet he couldn't do the same for Caedus? Some over at JCF have argued that Caedus rejected both Luke and Jaina's offers of redemption, so he's automatically beyond redemption, but the thing is, Luke kept trying with Vader -- even after Vader tried everything possible to make him snap, even after Vader shrugged off all offers of redemption. Perhaps it could be explained as the weight of multiple wars crashing down on him, and giving him this weird feeling of, "Nothing I do or say matters; why bother trying?" Even so, you'd have to try very, very hard to get it right.
And though it kind of extends beyond LOTF, the whole issue of "compassion is for those who deserve it" as well. Again, have kind of heard some people on JCF say things like "oh, Mace never showed Anakin any compassion when the latter first came to the Temple" (which is probably a rant for another time), but...it's simply not Luke. I don't think Luke would send a sister to kill her own brother just because he was too afraid of doing it himself -- I think he would have gone after said brother and tried to help him (genuinely tried) because it was the right thing to do. True, he may have felt some degree of grief over Mara's death (he is, after all, human), but I think with later information, his mindset would be less "vengeance vengeance vengeance" and more "ohshitwhathaveidone" (especially considering that his actions in NJO indirectly contributed to what happened to Jacen/Caedus). It may have been a response to Luke in the JEDI ACADEMY TRILOGY (basically, one guy getting away with blowing up entire star systems), but even then, it's just a tacky way to get back at the JAT, really. And it's really not worth the Character Derailment whatsoever.
