Oh wow, this was such a wonderful fic, layered and nuanced and complicated, just like the characters themselves. You feel for Kate here, that she held out hope for Sawyer coming back with her and then painfully realizes that he didn't just keep waiting for her. It's so damning that she's planning to go back to Jack now. He was always better at forgiving her. Such a great line.

I really like the idea of Sawyer and Juliet together. Although it seems like settling at first for both of them I like to think that they would really be better for each other in the long run than either Kate or Jack would be. I like the unspoken intimacy between them here, even amidst all the distrust and uncertainty of Kate and Ben's return. And I like how Kate and Ben are both so self-absorbed and delusional in their own way. I never would have thought to compare them and yet that's very apt!

Thank you so much for reading, and for the comments. I feel the same way about Sawyer and Juliet -- it would feel like "settling" at first for both, but ultimately I think they're much better for each other than Jack or Kate. I love writing Ben and had never written Kate, so seeing her through his eyes and vice versa really helped me get inside her character. I'm glad you enjoyed this. :)
