The laptop which we (or I, more properly) thought was deceased, is not. All credit on finding this out goes to thegamemistress. As she has now gone and bought her own (new used) laptop, I am getting the old laptop (a Pentium 2) and have been spending the evening setting it up with Windows 98 - which is what it was designed for, unlike Win XP, which quit working
