[If you pass by a certain house today, you're certain to notice the smell of baking. It wafts through an open window, through which you can also hear the sound of cheerful humming, occasionally punctuated by long pauses and murmured words along that lines of, "Now what was I doing

[Fenimore had been out when Grune had started that baking adventure, so when she returned to the smell of baking, she assumed that it was Shirley, too. Upon opening the door, she calls out:] What are you making, Shir--?

[lostinmyway]

Hmmm.... Where do I go?

[xelhes]

...You said that you remembered.

[lostinmyway]

Oh, did I?

[xelhes]

Yes, you did. [It seems that no luck is going to come from interrogating Grune. Rather than sighing, though, she'll just snatch up another non-burnt biscuit.]

[lostinmyway]

[By now there's the scent of burning in the air, which seems to remind Grune of what she was doing. Unhurriedly, she removes the pan from the oven, waves her hand absently to disperse the smell, and puts an already-prepared pan of dough inside. It's a sight to inspire deep confidence.]

[xelhes]

[She only notices about the same time as Grune, so she isn't able to help salvage those ones. She gives the biscuit in her hand another look. ...No, it looks like this is one of the good ones. She eats it while she watches Grune go about her unhurried business. Once she's swallowed the last part:]

Do you want some help with that?

[lostinmyway]

I'm fine. Everything is under control! […Maybe.]

[xelhes]

Are you sure? That batch doesn't look so good.

[lostinmyway]

[She looks at the batch in question. They're smoking slightly.] Oh, I'm sure they'll be all right.

[xelhes]

...Listen, the next time? I'll keep an eye on it for you--or a nose--as back-up.

[lostinmyway]

Thank you, Fenimore. That's very kind.

[xelhes]

[Fenimore waves a hand dismissively, as if warding off the compliment.] I'm just looking out for myself, that's all. It's in my best interests to have biscuits that aren't burned, right?

[lostinmyway]

Oh yes. Biscuits that aren't burned are so delicious.

[xelhes]

Yeah, they are. [Oh, Grune.]

...What made you suddenly decide to start baking?

[lostinmyway]

Oh, well, it was such a lovely day....
