Well, that was pretty easy, Martha thought as she made her way up the pathway that led to the front gate. She carefully opened the cast-iron gate, stepped through it and, just as

"Right. Peas, bananas, and cake. Did we forget anything?"

He found the bottle opener and then crossed to the refrigerator to get some ice.

"He used to have gigantic ears. It was even harder to take him seriously with big old ears flapping about."
Rose quirked her eyebrows and laughed.
Reply
"Oh my god, the image of you with big ears!"

He pulled a bucket out and filled it with ice before sticking the bottle of wine into it.

She rinsed the peas and tossed them into a saucepan, believing that they would not take too long to cook.
"He's right though, he did look completely different. Wore a leather jacket, hair wasn't so big. Sounded like he was from the north."
The smile stuck; It was fueled by fond memories.

"Form the North you say?" she glanced up and saw Rose's fond smile. Her heart twinged, but she ignored it. "Leather Jacket? Sounds...very different."

He glanced at Rose and then Martha. "Like I told Rose: Lots of planets have a north."
Even if I am from the south of my planet, he thought.

"It was a nice jacket." Rose said, tapping the fork lightly against her palm.
"He wore lots of jumpers," she spoke directly too Martha this time. Her eyes hit somewhere to the left of Martha's shoulder for the first few words but soon her gaze slid properly to the other woman's face. "Whenever we went anywhere in the past and he made me change into period clothing he got off by telling me he'd changed his jumper and that was enough."
At least they found common ground in the Doctor, Rose mused.

"I think I would have liked dressing to suit the time peiod," Martha mused, grabbing another plate and arranging the carved meat upon it. "I was stuck in the same jeans and t-shirt that I came aboard in for a while. I had to wear a maid's uniform once in 1913 though..." she paused, "I'd like to say that was fun, but I was more or less treated with contempt or ignored."

He walked over to Rose to help with the peas. "Rose, you and I are going to have to have a conversation about the Jackie Tyler Institute of Cooking Inedible Food."
Reply
She waved a hand in the air as though it was all perfectly logical. It was for her, at least. She had been living it for the past three years.
"Still," she sucked a breath through her teeth. "1913, don't envy you there."
Her attention found itself again focussed on the Doctor. "Oi, it's not like I had anyone else to learn from. Mum fired the cooks at Pete's place and insisted on makin' every meal herself." Rose relinquished the fork with a huff.

He looked to Martha. "Woman couldn't cook to save her life. Brilliant cup of tea, but food? Couldn't do it."
Reply
She looked at Rose as she was explaining, and didn't get a word. She shook her head and grinned. "Complicated then?"
She snorted, "Sounds like my Dad." she said, "Although he couldn't make a decent cuppa either, so he was totally hopeless."
Reply
If only. Rose peeked at the peas and gave herself yet another mental scolding. Jackie would be fine with so much family around her now. Stop worrying.
"Reckon they're about ready?"
