The Master had considered going home since there was very little to do and children were singing carols in front of one of the shopping areas. He couldn't abide children singing and he certainly didn't approve of anyone singing badly. Or, at least, singing badly when they were not in fact famous on some planet somewhere ( ... )

The Rani was watching her tea when he joined her, and for what seemed a very long time that's where her eyes stayed. It was impossible, but there he was, sitting across from her. Alive, despite everything that had happened, and after so long.

She very deliberately lifted her cup and took a sip of tea before raising her eyes to look at him. "Almost enough to make me think there is actually something to Christmas." Smiling, just a bit, she continued. "It's been a very long time."

The Master sipped his tea in response before leaning forward. After all, what he had to say hardly need to concern anyone else present. "Yes it has," he agreed, tapping his fingers on the edge of the table as he smiled back. "You have no idea how glad I am to see you."

He couldn't recall ever saying anything like that to her before and while the sentiment was maudlin in some respects, it couldn't be helped. He'd lost an entire planet's worth of equals and what good was controlling the universe with no one there to applaud your efforts? To find himself once again in the presence of another Time Lord and quite possibly the only one with an intelligence that rivaled his own was truly remarkable.

The Rani raised one eyebrow in a delicate arch. That was enthusiastic, sentimental, and not like him at all. Still, given the wretched silence where their entire race had once been buzzing like an overlarge hive of bees, perhaps he does mean it as it sounded. If it had been her it certainly would have had the same ring of emotion to it, so for the moment she will take it at face value.

"Oh, I think I do. Since I find myself likewise glad to see you." She smirked a bit and sipped from her cup again. "Though I must admit to some surprise as well - you were positively effusive, you know." Perhaps when they've finished their tea, she can get him out of this crowd and ask the one question that's been nagging at her since her return: What happened to Gallifrey?

The Rani frowned, trying to decipher why the Master would want her to change her style of plotting. Surely he knows better than to mess with success? "Perhaps. Sometime when I am certain the extra attention won't detract from success."

Now that they had arrived, she did get more enthusiastic; it has been quite some time since she has had access to such an interesting subject, and she wants to see where she'll be working on him. "I must confess I cannot wait to see what you've put together. Shall we?"

"Yes, indeed," The Master agreed, exiting once the vehicle had come to a complete stop. He hummed under his breath as he walked around the back in order to open The Rani's door. "I am certain it won't disappoint you." He had always been rather good at putting an ideal lair together.

"Excellent." The Rani slid easily out of the car when the Master opened her door, and glanced about the parking garage as she waited for him to lead the way. "I trust that you've assembled this place with your typical flair and panache."

"Don't I always?" The Master asked before closing the door and walking towards the lift that led into the building. "I'll have to grant you access to the restricted levels."
