Fic: A Comedy of Errors (Spooks/B7)

Mar 24, 2010 19:11

One of those things that definitely wasn't what I was supposed to be doing with my afternoon off. But emerald_happy's suggestion of a Ros-Avon snark fest began to take shape in my head. Two disclaimers: 1. I apologise that there isn't anything like enough snark. 2. There really ought to be a very dark version of this somewhere. (I'll think about it).

Firstly my day has been crap and then you write this. I officially love you. Have the world. Have the universe. Have chocolate chip cookies.

LOL. Blue Peter teleport bracelets. *rofl*

Ruth getting along with Vila. Awww that is superbly cute. Yay for ice creams. HOMG Ros smiles. That smile is like Avon's smile.

LOL. I love the ending. It's wonderful. Interfering Orac after all!

And the Ros and Avon bits are awesome fun. I need to rewatch Spooks and B7 and think up some funny crossovers situations...

If it hadn't been you with your ice creams, I would have set this S8 for Spooks, S4 for Blake's 7. In fact, I am feeling strongly tempted to do so anyway. ;-)

But, heh, you can tell I ♥ Ruth and Vila best, can't you? And struck me that there compulsive attitudes to what they do and deceptively dangerous moments gave them far more in common than I'd have dreamt before writing this.

I couldn't resist the tacky-B7 props joke. *cough*

So glad that this could cheer you up. Thanks for the universe, but I'm not sure what to do with it (as someone once said), except shout at it. I think I'll give it back for the moment.

Oh my, S8 and S4. Very dark. I can see post last B7 ep Avon and post 8.03 Ros having some interesting conversations. Or Vila and Harry having interesting conversations about them. Not to mention Vila and Ruth meeting again would be wonderful. Awww just thinking about it makes me want to hug them both. Oh the angst! Then they can all make friends and Tariq can make them a spaceship and Ruth and Harry can wave them off from the rooftop of Thames house. Happy ending of sorts is a must.

Ruth and Vila are both curious and love figuring things out.

Oh and I can see Vila asking Ros "Are you by any chance related to Kerril? No. Forget I asked."

I hadn't thought about it being post S4. That would be interesting. I'm still thinking maybe near the end of S4, and S8 for both, with Lucas, Ros, Avon and Soolin forced to work together, Vila stuck on the grid (for some reason I haven't fathomed yet), maybe with Orac (Ruth and Orac?) and Dayna and Tarrant stuck back on the ship. But I think it would have to be an alternative to this, because I don't think I can accommodate both versions in the same universe.

I think everyone who watches both these shows (is that only us?) should attempt their own versions! ;-D

He and Ruth exchanged a glance. Harry stiffened at this, both in irritation at the delay, and also because he preferred to be the one exchanging glances with Ruth.

*snickers*

Quite how the hunters and prey had merged together into one group sitting on the grass in the sunshine, armed only with ice creams, Adam couldn’t say, but personally he blamed Ruth’s anarchist streak and the persuasive tongue of the smaller, older man of the two.

*More snickers* That is SO Ruth!!

PS, beta-ish comment:

When I come back, I want these people to be gone, neutralised in whatever fashion necessary, and I would prefer it Ros didn’t kill anyone just yet.”

"if" after "it"

Heh, thank you! :-) Yes, I thought my attempts at Ruthiness weren't too bad this time.

(I fixed the missing word, and another. I wrote that way too quickly yesterday afternoon - ought to be ashamed of myself.)

OH YAY THIS. *flails* Have I told you before how astonishingly competent you are at making me enjoy and understand fic for fandoms about which I know nothing? I think I have! I will tell you again!

Avon had an interesting method all his own for dealing with threats of the female variety.

Ros Myers had a trademark means of subduing men who risked condescension towards her, let alone those who tried to take what she considered to be a definite infringement of her personal rights and liberties.

He conceded that round to her and they returned to more traditional interrogation techniques.

I highly, highly approve of everything in this part. This is the second consecutive morning commute I've spent reading fic on my painfully tiny phone screen and persisting with scrolling line-by-line because it's just that good. Are there any other alien/scifi crossovers Ruth can encounter? I will never tire of Ruth and the unexplainable.

Heh, thanks. Just as well, considering my determination to dig my way into fandom obscurity. And your instinct for picking out the lines I was smuggest about and highlighting is very pleasing, too. ;-D (I could have written that scene out, of course, but it would have been more difficult and less funny. The only thing was, whether anyone who hadn't seen both would get what happened)

(This is Avon in the icon. Probably about to do something nasty to Vila. Aw.)

Well, there are certainly enough sf shows to pick from. Off the top of my head, you could probably just about get in something with the X-Files. The overlap is very brief, but maybe Malcolm, Ruth and the UFO-ologists, and Mulder and Scully on the run would tie up? (I'm just going to contemplate whether I can write the dark version of this cross. Dark isn't very me. I'll have to write it when I'm feeling bitter about work.)

Ruth/X-Files YES PLS. (And I would love to see you write something dark again, but not if it means you have to be upset to write it! Your usual lovely light style would also be totally great.)

Heh, I DIDN'T SAY I would! It would work, though, I think. *looks darkly at ever growing list of WIPS/ideas*

Well, everyone gets upset from time to time. We can't all be lucky enough to have the catharsis of fic-writing. :-) It would be interesting. When I have a proper moment to sit and write something out longhand, though. I can type up funny, but anything else needs to go through longhand first in some form.

That's funny. I love Malcolm wondering if their weapons are made by Blue Peter, Harry getting upset at Ruth trading glances with someone else, Ros and Avon together, and Vila asking Orac for ice cream.

Thank you! It entertained me writing it - glad it amused you, too! :-) (Of course, the ice cream would come in weird colours and flavours...)
