I see what you mean by the 'dotty' grain in them, but I like what you've done here so far - I wonder if messing about with the contrast and such on something like Gimp would help smooth them, but can't give any specific advice being only mediocre at it myself.

Thanks. One or two of them are okay, aren;t they? I had fun and if I should post them anywhere else, any Chalet School fan would recognise the source - and half of these have already been considerably smoothed over! Heh.

The new prgramme I have is very good for photo-editing. It's just I'm finding out how to work it by pressing random buttons.

Serif PhotoPlus 9. It's a more dated version, but that's because I got it free with my family history magazine. However, it does everything I couldn't do before. :-)

For DVD screencaps I use the VLC player, pause the DVD where I want it and press Ctrl+Alt+S to take a screenshot. Once that's done, I can use GIMP to cut it down to an icon or scribble on it.

Okay, I downloaded it; I'm playing something in it, but Ctrl + Alt + S gets me product info on my computer, which is handy to know, but not much use otherwise.

You could also try 'Snapshot' on the 'Video' menu. That worked for me...
