Podfic: something in the heart (Hist RPF/Shadow of the Tower)

Jul 25, 2015 14:13

I've been a little quiet this week, because my friend was up visiting for two days, which was lovely (she is also the only person I know in rl who thinks watching creaky old cult TV is fun. O, guess what we did?), but then I was extremely tired after. I'm feeling a bit better now & decided that it might be a good moment to have another go at ( Read more... )

I'm glad you've had a nice (if tiring) week. I thought you'd gone off to give more blud!

The podfic was very sweet:) You sounded a bit nervous at the start x.

I did! I had a nice time with E, my friend, but then Thurs and yesterday was rather more overtired than I can still account for, which was a little worrying, so I laid low until I started to feel a bit more human again!

But I made her watch some Adam Adamant (she liked it!) and some Blake's 7 (she liked that too) and then we finished up with some Sixth Doctor. (I loved seeing her for other reasons too, of course, especially as it's been difficult for us to get together for long for years, because we both have health issues.)

Aw, thanks! ♥ You may very well be my only listener. And it wasn't so much nerves as "I'm going to do this wretched thing, I've only been trying for a year... why am I doing this ungodly, unnatural thing, why?????" And then after that it was a bit better.

Best friend ever! Excitement can be tiring. I think all these people who hate AAL have never watched it because everyone who watches it seems to like it. It's a conspiracy!

LOL, perhaps not the best way to get into podficcing!

Yay for podfic! You have a great voice! I kind of love and am slightly jealous of your accent. I thought you did very well with the tones and emotions of the story too.

For me, just starting out podficcing was mortifying. I can only do it if no one else is in the house. Once you get into the project, it starts to feel better, I think.

If you are using a microphone on a stand, one thing you can do to get rid of the puffs of air that sometimes come with 'p's and other plosive sounds, is to take a pair of nylons (pantyhose, tights etc) and stretch them across some kind of frame (I used a bent up coat hanger) and position this between you and the mike with some duct tape or the like so you speak through it when you record. It gets rid of all those plosive effects. You could also buy a fancy screen like they have in sound studios, but I have found that the pantyhose trick works perfectly.

Thank you! That's very kind of you! ♥

Indeed, I don't think I'd be doing it with anyone else around - certainly not if I'm reading out my own fic! /o\

And ooh, thank you - that sounds like a really useful tip. I have something that should work well for a frame, so I've fished out an old pair of nylons from the back of the drawer & I'll give it a test and see how it goes. :-)

So glad your friend came up to hang with you. Even if it left you tuckered out. So hoping this podficcing idea works out - easy does it and one step at a time, yes?

*HUGS*
