Random is as random does...

Jun 07, 2015 20:07

So yesterday I ended up playing with the Unconventional Courtship Generator again, and made a post of summaries that amused me (as I do). But then got embarrassed about posting nonsense all the time (as I do), although of course, that was silly of me, because is that not what LJ is for? Anyway, slight repost; will promise faithfully not to delete ( Read more... )

*grins and ♥ at you*

Thank you for re-posting! I just LOVED #388 - the idea of Silver and Charley Pollard together is beautifully random and awesome. If you ever get the urge to write something with the two of them, please don't resist!

It was a fun combination, although what Silver was doing marrying anyone, I don't know! :-)

He probably did it for mysterious and important reasons(TM)!

Of course! Mind, I'm not in the least bit surprised at Charley getting kidnapped by pirates the very next day. That's just pretty much normal for her...

Colour me intrigued by

"Adam Adamant, practical bookstore owner"

and

"Struggling interior designer Killian Jones and his twin sister, Servalan"

Heh, I do love these random generators! And I think Kilian would end up dead half way through that one...

Posting nonsense is, indeed, part of the function of LJ! And one of the great things about posting stuff on the internet is that if other people are in the mood whatever nonsense you've got, they can share it with you, and if they're not, it's easy for them to just scroll on by, so it's not like you're imposing on anyone. (This is, at least, how I justify all the boring and self-indulgent stuff I post to my regular blog.)

And these are still entertaining, when I am in the mood for nonsense. Which I am. And these are even more entertaining than usual!

I would think Seven would find Barbara not recognizing him entirely understandable, really. But I'm boggling at the idea of describing the First Doctor as a "mousy innocent."

Cora's going to be pissed when she finds out her prince isn't really a prince. AgainIf anybody is going to rise from the grave to kick ass, it's probably going to be Leela ( ... )

It is, it is. It's just sometimes all I can do and then I have worries about how my life suddenly boiled down to internet nonsense (you can't live on it), but those are only bad days. And at least nonsense is something to be going on with. :-)

And, hey, never mind the stilettos, it knew he should be a lawyer and that Kryten has an armour-plated exterior!

Avon/Rose may be the worst pairing ever.

So much so, it's kind of beautiful. I'm not surprised they're getting a divorce.

And I really, really want to hear Jo Grant's attempt at a Texas drawl, especially if it's used in the service of playing bodyguard to Gene Hunt, because his reaction to that would be hilarious. But what idiot put Gene in charge of PR?!I think at least two of these are things where both characters must actually be undercover in ill-advised disguises spying on the other agent instead of the villain. (Probably Sam tyler told Gene he couldn't do PR and that was that.) Cowgirl!Jo Undercover is an adorable idea. This one should so be a thing. I can't ( ... )

I suppose being able to post internet nonsense is better than not being able to do anything at all, but, yeah, not feeling up to doing anything else but that sounds seriously frustrating. I wish you lots of non-nonsense times again soon.

I'm not capable of writing it, either, alas, but someone should really, really do the Jo Grant and Gene fic. It is a thing I did not know until now that the world needs. :)

This is a rush job, but see how it grabs you.

Features it would be nice to have at some point:
  • Better list of tropes - I just filched this one from trope_bingo.
  • Links to trope definitions
  • NSFW filter
  • Eerie sentience

You can bookmark cast lists, too.

ETA: OK, the thing now contains four trope lists. Since one of them was from kink_bingo, I also added a rudimentary NSFW filter.

So (just so I've got this clear):

- The first document should be a separate list in the generator?
- The second document should be... one list? Or three replacing the existing hc_bingo, cotton_candy and trope_bingo lists?
- Have you got a link so that I can credit the creator of the original?

Oh, and this came up while testing:

Sapphire / Silver / Steel - sharing a bed & talking appliance sidekick

S/S/S and Talkie Toaster. The world is not yet ready.

Yes, the first document is a list of all the prompts I found that were in the original and don't seem to be in your other lists (though I think probably there are still a bunch of duplicates). It also contains a few extras that I came up with. :-)

The second doc is, yes, to replace the existing three sets, if you agree with my omissions. (In particular, as it is, the h/c prompts are making the results feel like some disturbing mass accident; I think some of the current trope_bingo list is seriously weird, even for a person who likes random stuff, and some of the cotton candy ones were a little too vague in context, but that one may just be me. YMMV, as they say!). I hadn't looked at the kink-bingo ones, because I'm hardly the expert!

Ha, S&S and Talkie Toaster! That is pretty awesome.
