This was briliant. The characterisation of the Doctor, who will continue to insist this up until Edge of Destruction, and Clara and Idris, and the planet, and everything.

And a neat resolution to the "Susan named the TARDIS/They're all called that" continuity snarl! Lovely!

Thank you!! :-)

And I'm glad you liked that bit - I wanted to have Susan choosing the name, but it is an odd bit of discontinuity, until I thought that is she literally means she thought of using the acronym first, that doesn't stop other Time Lords also doing so after she and the Doctor have left. Probably...

I really enjoyed this. A nice inkling of the very early days between the Doctor and "his" Ship - I liked how he tries his best to be a cantankerous old so-and-so and treat her as simply a machine, but even he isn't really buying it after a while. Some nice TARDIS-pov stuff and you know how much I enjoy horrible little insights into the side of Gallifrey they don't put in the tourist brochures (if they allowed tourists!); horrible little metal spider-things and crystals...brrr. I think the highlight of it for me, though, was the excellent One pov and voice (both out loud and in his own head), and his interactions with Susan (doing the same trying-to-be-above-it-all thing in relation to the psychic flowers and failing there too). Oh, and a Clara shout-out too; very nice :D

Thank you! I'm glad you enjoyed it. And, yes, I don't think Gallifrey would welcome tourists, except probably under President Romana, just to annoy the rest of the Council. :-)

I wanted to do a little more with Clara, and then realised that that really wasn't what the fic was about, and a brief mention is quite fun in itself.

Finally had time to read this, and it's wonderful! The TARDIS and her Thief, right at the beginning -- and also the Doctor and his granddaughter, and the Ship that she decided to name TARDIS. I love all the gorgeous little touches, like the flowers that understand, and the interactions between the Doctor and Susan. Such a great story -- thank you for making it part of the dw_50ficathon!

(Edited because apparently I can't spell the name of my own ficathon community.)

This is just...this is perfect. Absolutely perfect!! You can see he is resisting the fancy of it all, but...why else did he get the notion to leave?

Utter perfection. SAVED.

This is a lovely story. I love that the Doctor freed the TARDIS from all the little inhibitors -- just the kind of casual cruelty the Time Lords think nothing about.

I love that you showed the moment when Susan named the TARDIS. I like it a lot!
