It's been SO LONG since I watched that show - not since I was still living at home with the parents and it was on UK Gold. One day I will invest in the box set and revisit it...
Lalla Ward was in the last few episodes and got to sing, dance, do a bad Yorkshire accent and wear lots of nice 1920s dresses.

My...that is a remarkable coincidence, isn't it, Mr Fellowes? ;D As you say, though, fair game I would say at this sort of remove. Which reminds me of the idea I had re Downton while I was on holiday - the only way the series can truly end is with the final episode fast-forwarding as close to the present day as is chronologically credible and showing a very, very old Mary and/or Matthew (assuming nothing bad happens to them in the meantime) opening the house up to the coach parties, guided tours etc. Just a thought, anyway.
And I don't understand why anybody would cast an actor with remarkable hair like Mr Collings has just to make them wear a wig. The mind boggles. ;)
:loL: No, really - Lalla Ward's character decides to be a singer, so yes, she sings and wears loads of gorgeous 1920s outfits. She's literally only in the second half of S2 (but if you did ever want to risk your pennies on Lalla, I would recommend getting at least the whole of S2, because the second half starts in the middle of some really emotional bits of WWI and character stuff. I don't think you'd regret the whole thing, anyway. It moves along swiftly, it's very engaging, lots of good guest actors, and it does the home front of WWI with the changing attitudes instead of people just automatically having the right, modern ones
