100 Things I Like in 100 Icons (#009)

I hadn't forgotten about the challenge. I just immediately, on finishing S6 of DW, knew I had to make my next post this one... and then just felt terribly bad because my impression from my flist last year was that an awful lot of people didn't enjoy it. (Although I suspect having the DVDs and no anxious waiting between eps helps!!) In fact, it ( Read more... )

Quite a lot of us wanted to see wee!Amelia travel with Eleven.

And the lovely thing is that the actress who played her as done some conventions already...

I thoroughly agree with you about Matt Smith and his wonderful Doctorishness. You really can see lovely little echoes of past Doctors in his performance, stuff that thoroughly convinces you that, yes, he really is the same person.

Also, watching him with kids is the funnest thing ever.

(Was that sufficiently restrained squeeing? :))

Yes! It's lovely. (Have you seen this? The montage of the same movements/moments across the eras is completely amazing.)

I think maybe, in the end, squee is happily difficult to restrain. :-)

No, I hadn't seen that! That's lovely! And mesmerizing. I think I need to watch it another three or four times now. :)

It really is, isn't it? I caught it, mainly because I recognised the vidder as the same person who'd done this impressive S&S vid, but the DW one goes to another level again, I think.

I think one of the reasons that I love Matt so much is that he seems the most like the "old" doctors. He has all the classic quirkyness of Tom and Pat.

Yes. And he almost immediately started throwing in some hand movements that William Hartnell did, which made me so happy. But, yes, he clearly takes his lead from Patrick Troughton, which shows great taste. :-)

Matt Smith has really done his research - I see so much Seven in him. So much Five. And sometimes, he's so much like an old man in a young man's body, it's amazing.

Yes! I know. I was so excited (it was v sad) the moment I saw he was doing little Hartnell-like hand movements in S5. And, yes, he has definitely picked up Five and Seven as well now (maybe he had before, and I hadn't noticed - One and Two were just so obviously there, and I think I read something about him being so enthusiastic about the two of them).

I love Matt Smith's Doctor. The writing for his seasons has been a bit hit-and-miss, to be sure, but you can say that about most eras of Who - I'm happy to sit back and enjoy watching Eleven being wonderfully Doctorish!

I think hit and miss could be the definition of DW, really! It's part of the fun - and why DW fans can rarely agree, because we all like the different bits.

And, yes, I so much loved catching up with S6 and just enjoying the Doctor being the Doctor.
