"It's a good job I've got a positive self-image."

This wasn't going to be the character for today, but I got carried away earlier when my collecting of bits and pieces and so on led to unexpected Colin Baker and Anthony Stewart Head (see below) among other things. (Besides, does Jonathan Creek count as obscure? Doesn't feel like it can be, really...)

How come when I stay at your place you get the bed and I get the sofa, but when you stay at my place you still get the bed and I get the sofa? )

30 days of awesome women, jonathan creek, maddy magellan, colin baker, caroline quentin, anthony stewart head, meme

I've yet to see any Jonathan Creek that doesn't feature Sheridan Smith - but I've got the boxset of (I think) the first four seasons on my Amazon wishlist, so one day!

And I really ought to do day 2 of this meme myself - but I've been distracted by Big Finish audios and attempts to write over the last two days!

And I thought I was mad for holding out till S2 or 3 and then realising how crazily brilliant the show was. I have been thinking about the boxset for about four years, and watching ep 1 on YouTube made me go order it on Amazon. :-D (You could try the clips - Colin Baker is a philandering artist with a ponytail who gets shot, and then there's Anthony Stewart Head as Adam Klaus, with a truly awful US accent (you made the right choice, ASH, between this and Giles. It doesn't bear thinking about...) And Jonathan was likeable back then... *flails about the Maddy/Jonathan stuff in ep 1* (I want Maddy back even more than I did before.)

Yes, I've been waiting to see who you would choose next! :-) But writing is always more important. *nods* BFAs and writing - that doesn't sound too bad!

I just somehow never got around to watching it...

Sorry for the unintentional suspenders - I mean suspense - I didn't mean to get so caught up in Jago & Litefoot S1 or the Peri Companion Chronicle or S10 of Benny...

Can't blame you in that case! Keep me in suspenders anytime (Erm... Hmmm. Maybe not...)

OMG, that must've been such a shock to start watching and suddenly get Colin Baker! His voice is so recognizable -- it just jumped out at me, and I knew it was him right away even though the camera wasn't on him when he started talking.

Anthony Stewart Head's accent -- yes, what is he doing there? It actually sounds mostly English to me, with a hint of American. At least it's not grating at all, though, or not to me.

I know nothing about Jonathan Creek -- never seen the show, never heard of it.

Looking forward to Press Gang. ;D

 I know, I had NO idea he was ever in it; so I was all like that sounds like... Colin Baker!?!

Yeah, I ended up watching the whole thing on YouTube and it sounds like either he isn't trying (which seems odd), or he's just bad at it, or he's aiming for a sort of mid-Atlantic accent for a US guy who's been in Britain for a while. Whatever the case, it was a toss up for him between this and the part of Giles, and as Adam is such an awful sleeze, even aside from the accent, I'm glad he decided to go off to America!

Really? I did wonder; it's just it's a bit of a household name in the UK, even now. It's by David Renwick (who wrote One Foot In The Grave)and started in 1997 and has only really had 4 series, but there have been one-off specials since (the last one featured Paul McGann and Sheridan Smith, funnily enough). It's a comedy-crime series which always has really complicated solutions to locked room type murders, (which has since become a bit of a standing joke in itself).

:-D

Given that Adam would later turn out to have a sister with a Scottish accent who consistantly called him "Chester", it's probably quite reasonable for his American accent to sound completely fake...

Yes, it occurred to me later that I wasn't actually certain Adam wasn't just meant to be completely phony, accent included. :-) It has been way too long since I watched this show.

OMG JONATHAN CREEK OMG

The first episode is actually one of the few I have seen, but not since it was on tv approximately a million years ago... Must track the rest down! That was such a good show, omg.

Must track the rest down! That was such a good show, omg That was kind of my reaction yesterday. It led me to Amazon, where the boxset was unusually cheap. And I'm ill, right? So... :-D

The rest of S1 does appear to be on youTube, by the same person who put the above links up, though, I couldn't help but observe.

It really was. And occasionally is, too. :-)
