Fic: The Usual Insanity

May 15, 2010 11:46

Written for belantana for the crossover meme. (The prompt being Evie from The Mummy meeting someone from The West Wing. I don't propose for the others to be this long, but belantana kind of challenged me to introduce her to the show, which is new to me, too. I couldn't include Toby or Leo, but they get refs.)

This made me giggle helplessly. Just one thing: Americans say "the power", not "the electric".

Thank you! :-)

And I've changed that now, thanks. We say the power sometimes, too. Heh, I usually write DW and I don't need US-picking there. (And I@m such a dedicated Brit-picker, too...)

I don't remember The Mummy that well, but I did like Evie confusing Sam and writing hieroglyphics on his speech. And particularly the scene with Jed and Sam at the end.

Thanks! And... wait - you watch the West Wing, too? :-)

I started last year with finding second hand videos of S1 and now I'm hooked (but am still about halfway through S3.)

I love The Mummy! Maybe it's the librarian thing. (In the middle Evie gets drunk and says, "I'm proud of what I am - a librarian!" and the whole cinema laughed except for me. I was sitting there going, "Why is that funny?")

I do. I watched the whole thing through about the time that the last couple of seasons were on TV. It was a while ago now, so I'm starting to forget it a bit.

Oh well done Spook! I love The Mummy, and I really love The West Wing, so this was doubly wonderful. I think you captured everyone's voice very well, especially Sam and Evie.

Thanks! :-) I haven't tried writing The West Wing fic before, but I've been watching my way through the first 3 seasons a lot lately, so as long as I could avoid anything needing in-depth political knowledge, I thought I could get away with it, but it's been an age since I've seen the Mummy! Glad it worked for you.

Well I am thoroughly sold! This is lovely, and once again you managed to plot together the entire crossover instead of just the unexplained dialogue you're required by meme-law to do. :D

I very much like Sam and also I loved Evie's nonchalance at suddenly appearing in of all places the White House. Hilarious! Thank you so much for this!

"Why is nothing dramatic happening? Why are they not trying to stop people blowing things up? Why are people being optimistic?"

Oh I totally do this too. Spooks has ruined us!

Wouldn't say no to that crossover of course... *g*

Heh. I don't know if it will happen, but it's logical because we know MI5 help out with presidential visits and the two shows ran concurrently. Plus, being ill I lay around planning what would happen after TWW obliged me by having a presidential visit somewhere and therefore letting me know which characters could go, aside from the President. :-D Just not Donna, sadly.

“Donna, I am kind of busy. Leo McGarry also has a thing, and his thing is way more important than your thing -.”

“How do you know?” she returned, with a pout. “I haven’t told you what my thing is. It could be the end of world civilisation as we know it.”

OH GUESS WHAT, this story is ten times more awesome than it already was now that I know who everyone is! You have Donna and Josh voices down; this is perfect. Even happier now that I inadvertently prompted it!

Aw. Thanks. :-D

It was only meant to be Sam and Evie (cos of the meme), but Josh and Donna insisted on having a scene. Loved writing their random conversation, but it only works when you have a starting point (there's a woman with an urn...)

:-D
